A pen is plastic, metal and ink in one piece. No bin takes it. A BĪJ pen is wood, seed paper and a seed capsule. Every one of them has a second life waiting at the end of the first.

How it works

Write

Scribble until the very last inch. When it is too short to hold, or the ink fades, the true magic begins.

Plant

Press the pencil sideways into the soil at a 30 degree angle, making sure the seed capsule is immersed.

Love

Add a little water and place it near the sunlight. A sprinkle to quench its thirst, a spot bathed in gentle light.

Grow

Watch the first sprouts break the soil. With each new leaf you are not just growing a plant, you are closing the loop.

A note from our founder

To put back nature into people's lives.

Left-handesign was founded in 2017 by Radhika Mayani. What began as a way to make everyday office essentials give something back has become Australia's plantable stationery brand, a Certified B Corporation, and a partner to businesses moving from single-use to regenerative.

Our vision is to make plantable stationery the standard, not the exception. We travelled the world to find responsibly produced raw materials and chose suppliers with ISO, FSC and SEDEX certifications. Every product is designed to go back to earth creating no waste.
